I found the Cadd9 chord a much nicer sound and seems to be a better fit than the
chords used in the previous versions on here. I also continued the chord patterns
throughout the entire song for us newbies, not just once for the first verse and
first chorus, etc.

IN THE CHORUS, YOU CAN CHANGE IT UP A BIT IF YOU'D LIKE (C [in place of Cmaj7], G
[in place of Cadd9], and D [in place of Dadd4]). THE CHOICE IS YOURS.

Capo II
Standard Tuning

------------------------------

[Verse 1]

Cmaj7 Cadd9
You got a fast car
Em7 Dadd4
I want a ticket to anywhere

Cmaj7 Cadd9
Maybe we make a deal
Em7 Dadd4
Maybe together we can get somewhere

Cmaj7 Cadd9
Any place is better
Em7 Dadd4
Starting from zero got nothing to lose

Cmaj7 Cadd9
Maybe we'll make something
Em7 Dadd4
Me, myself, I got nothing to prove
----------------------------------
Intro Fill

(Cmaj7, Cadd9, Em7, Dadd4) X2
-----------------------------

[Verse 2]

Cmaj7 Cadd9
You got a fast car
Em7 Dadd4
I got a plan to get us out of here

     Cmaj7 Cadd9
Been working at the convenience store
Em7 Dadd4
Managed to save just a little bit of money

Cmaj7 Cadd9
Won't have to drive too far
      Em7 Dadd4
Just 'cross the border and into the city

Cmaj7 Cadd9
You and I can both get jobs
    Em7 Dadd4
And finally see what it means to be living
-------------------------------------------
Intro Fill

(Cmaj7, Cadd9, Em7, Dadd4) X2

[Verse 3]

        Cmaj7 Cadd9
You see my old man's got a problem
   Em7 Dadd4
He lives with the bottle, that's the way it is

            Cmaj7 Cadd9
He says his body's too old for working
    Em7 Dadd4
His body's too young to look like his

   Cmaj7 Cadd9
My mama went off and left him
    Em7 Dadd4
She wanted more from life than he could give

         Cmaj7 Cadd9
I said, "Somebody's got to take care of him"
   Em7 Dadd4
So I quit school and that's what I did

          Em7 Dadd4
But is it fast enough so we can fly away?

Cmaj7 Cadd9
We gotta make a decision
Em7 Dadd4
Leave tonight or live and die this way

And I__________ had a feeling that I belonged

    Cadd9 Em7 Dadd4 Cmaj7 Dadd4

You still ain't got a job

I know things will get better

You'll find work and I'll get promoted

Cmaj7 Cadd9
We'll move out of the shelter

You stay out drinking late at the bar
    Em7 Dadd4
See more your friends than you do your kids

Cmaj7 Cadd9
I'd always hoped for better
        Em7 Dadd4
Thought maybe together you and me would find it

  Cmaj7 Cadd9
I got no plans I ain't going nowhere
